Audio Clips

Recording Methods

Gary Bartig records all audio clips in our own Warehouse Studio. Clips are performed by James Plattes and Kip Jones.

The "microphone only" audio clips are recorded using NO equalization, and NO dynamic compression. We do add a small amount of reverb, however this does not alter the tonal characteristics of the subject violin in the recording. We feel this gives the most accurate and honest tonal representation of each instrument we offer.

The "pickup only" audio clips are recorded using an L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. as the preamplifier. From there, the output of the preamplifier goes to an amplifier that powers a speaker. The speaker is then recorded using a microphone. No other equalization, besides what is available on the L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. preamplifier, is used for the "pickup only" audio clips.

We do not build in a preamp — as that would add weight and deaden the acoustic tone of the instrument — so we do recommend a preamplifier when playing our Acoustic Electric violins in an amplified setting.
